AAA Baseball is Coming to Reno |

It's the biggest thing to happen to downtown Reno since Bill Harrah opened his bingo parlor. On September 21, 2007, the Reno City Council inked a complicated $81 million deal with developers SK Baseball and Nevada Land LLC to build a 10,000-seat AAA baseball stadium and move the Pacific Coast League's Tucson Sidewinders to Northern Nevada in 2009 (or possibly 2010).
The agreement initiates land swaps and lease-backs involving five parcels owned by four entities on a blighted eight-acre site bordering the Truckee River at the eastern edge of downtown. Fire Station No. 1 will be relocated to accomodate the ballpark and part of Evans Avenue will be abandoned for a public plaza. The stadium site is part of a larger proposed "Ballpark District" that stretches from Wells Avenue on the east, East 5th Street on the north, State Street on the south and Sierra Street on the west.
